To begin filling the drag Sharon uses this vibrator to shake through some of the "green sand" that is used in the molding process. The sand is more black than green and the term greensand refers to the pre heated form of the sand much like in pottery work the unfired pieces are called greenware.
At Mystic River Foundry the sand is moved into the molds with a shovel. This foundry does mostly one off or limited production runs. Foundries that do bigger production work may use hoppers that can dump the sand directly into the mold flasks.
