I said earlier that I would describe the metal frames in slide #5 (Jump to #5). Although all molds could be made with full flasks the flasks take up a lot of storage room and they are heavy to handle. As can be seen here these molds have been made with the iron frames to give the actual cavity area needed extra support while the rest of the mold depends on the bonding power of the greensand. Less weight and works just as well on molds that are appropriate to this technique.
