This is a typical Merchant Marine crew cabin.  Up to 45 Merchant Marine crewmen manned the ship with about 40 Navy men to work the guns.

Some years ago we visited Winston Churchill's was rooms in the basement of Whitehall in London.  On the wall is a map where progress of convoys was tracked using push pins.  So many pin holes were made that in some places the map is in tatters.  When one looks at that map and sees the track of the convoys up to Murmansk, USSR one can only admire the courage of the men who sailed these lightly armed vessels.
