This is a view of the cylinders from a floor called the
packing deck. The packing deck gets its name because you had to pack the
cylinders where the piston rods come out so that the steam would stay in the
cylinder. In this picture the large cylinder in the foreground is the low
pressure cylinder and the smaller one in the background is the high pressure
cylinder. We had a double acting compound system in the
pump house. On the right hand side you can see the top of
the valve chests.
