Hamilton, Ontario Canada

Museum of Steam & Technology

In the background is a gauge plate from the 1882 expansion. Within 20 years of the pump house pumping Hamilton almost doubled its size as well and became a booming industrial city which meant we were using a lot of water. So the city expanded the pipes to pump more water and got more efficient boilers. The original boilers were Cornish type boilers which were replaced with a return tube style. In the foreground is our emergency stop wheel you can see how the pole in the middle of it goes all the way up and then is because there is a wheel on every floor so no matter where you were the engine could always be shut down.
