Steam and Technology Museum
For the now I will not attempt to identify what
is shown in these photos. When the pages are semi-complete I will be
contacting the very nice fellow who showed us around the engines and ask him to
supply the proper identification of parts and pieces. Thanks for your
patience but doing it this way will result in more accurate identifications.
You are looking at the emergency stop wheel which was used
to shut down the machine in case of emergencies. (whether that be someone
stuck in the machine or something breaking) The lever that looks like that a
gear shift is actually a lever used to control the size of our cams. The cams
dictate how much steam is allowed in our engine thereby dictating the speed.
The brass object mounted on the high pressure cylinder is a hydrostatic
lubricator, it's basically a device used so the oil can get into the bottoms
of the cylinders.
