Cheyenne, Wyoming
The Union Pacific Railway station in Cheyenne has been beautifully restored and now houses a visitor center, museum and restaurant. On a personal note I was born in Cheyenne in 1947. My grandfather in Hartford Connecticut took ill and my Mom and I moved back to Connecticut. It was a moving experience to sit in waiting hall of the Union Station and try to picture what she must have felt, sitting there waiting for her train with a baby in a basket facing the long journey back east.
This decorated scale loco is located in the Union Statin
In Cheyenne Wyoming we took pictures of this Union Pacific "Big Boy" locomotive. Temporary tracks were laid from the main line into the city park where the loco is on permanent display and the engine was rolled into the park. The temporary track were then picked up, hence the designation "temporary".
Unfortunately the loco is surrounded by a, on me, nose high chain link fence. Lacking a step ladder, although I did ask a park worker if he had one that I might borrow for a bit (no dice), I was forced to take photos through the fence or holding the camera high like a paparazzi and hoping for the best. For the most part I think I did OK. Terri also took a number of shots. Hers are the ones with a date in the lower corner of the picture.
In the botanical gardens this loco is on display.
What a great fence. Much better than the chain link around the Big Boy
Near the above loco is this Farmall tractor
