Meanwhile, in the shade of a nearby tree a park ranger was demonstrating the technique used "in the old days" for making iron pots.  The clay that the pattern was made from was built up on the axle which was rotated against a pattern which had the shape of the pot formed in it.  The pattern acted as a scraper to form the clay to the desire shape. 

The park ranger's name is Curtis White. We are very grateful for his support and coordination of the event. He has done extensive research on foundry processes and techniques during the 17th century.
