I had thought that I would be going to Zagray Farm in Colchester CT today but when I double checked the calendar it turned out that that show is NEXT weekend. So, what to do. I consulted my Farm Collector Show directory and found that there was an engine show in Riverhead NY (on Long Island). But that is a heck of along way to drive (about 390 mile round trip) on I 95 and the Long Island Expressway, either of which can turn into a parking lot at the drop of a hat. I thought about taking the ferry to Orient Point but that is pretty expensive. At that point I checked the American Truck Historical Society and lo and behold there was to be a tuck show in conjunction with the the engine show. Great! I decided to do the ferry at a cost of $52.00 each way which compared favorably with the cost of driving the 390 miles AND avoided maybe seven or eight hours of driving.
When I left the house at 5:37 this morning it was raining and I had real doubts about the wisdom of the project. I listened to weather reports on three different radio stations and they all said early rain with clearing followed by hot and humid. I decided to go ahead and was very glad that I had. The day turned out great and I had a wonderful time at the show.
Somewhat to my surprise I met Howard Gorin and a friend of his on the ferry and we chatted going across which made the hour and a half ride pass very pleasantly.
If you see your exhibit or machine and would care to drop me a line or two, or even a paragraph, about it I will be delighted to add your comments to this page. Please sent to webmaster@neme-s.org To identify a photo just hover your cursor over the photo and a tag should pop up. Please use the last three digits of the tag to identify the photo. For example if the tag came up DSC03974.jpg (205067 bytes) the info I would need is 976.jpg. If this is a multi page unit the page number would also be useful.
