Greenfield Village

Here, for me anyway, is the object of the visit.  The Armington and Sims Machine Shop and Foundry.  This is a recreation of an actual machine shop that once existed in Providence, Rhode Island.  Driven by a 75 JP steam engine and a system of overhead shafts and belts it is a fine example of an early machine shop.  The steam engine is, sadly, no longer operable and the while running machines are still powered by the overhead belts the system is powered by and electric motor.
