This is Japanese Knotweed and while the dried stems are like bamboo, the leaves are spade shaped, serrated, and demonstrate maroon colored veins. Phyllostachys has elongated willow shaped narrow, non serrated leaf structure. This plant will respond to application of sprayed white vinegar to the plant as well as if one sprays more y damaging Roundup
.
Heavy thick invasion of Yellow groove 75 ft wide x 31 ft deep and 30 to 34 ft tall .In a residential area on the side of a steep hill with no source of water around. Bamboo has involved the stone wall and dried culms have fallen onto parking area and neighboring property.
New shoots of Japanese knotweed adjacent to bamboo. AREA IS WELL KNOWN TO NORWICH POLICE AS DRUG SALES AREA.
This is second visit to this environmental disaster. Previously visited on 4/8/2013 the driveway has a lovely stonewall enclosed bamboo area that will be destroyed with the roots. Ares measured 176 ft x 176 ft x 57 ft raised triangle with 23-25 ft tall neatly contained yellow groove, for now. As I checked the area I found more bamboo across the driveway and it is 16 ft to a lovely serene pond, that has invasions across the pond and then I found bamboo ALL THE WAY DOWN THE ROAD TO THE INTERSECTION AND AROUND THE CORNER. I was nauseated. The bamboo is483 ft long on the 156 Fairgrounds Rd. side and15 to 30 ft deep to the water's edge then it continues onto Tatnic Rd and ends at the bridge that crosses a fast moving stream emptying the pond.
Fence does not contain Phyllostachys Aureosulcata and what a mess.
Short distance of bamboo to road pavement. Note speed trap 30 mph on Fairgrounds Rd but 25 mph on Tatnic Rd.
Boulders recently added to avoid accidents.
Pond was stocked by CT dept fisheries to encourage kids to learn to fish but property owner denies access to waterfront according to local fire dept.
This is bamboo across the spring fed pond.
View of neatly contained bamboo within stonewalled area. When you cross the driveway is the out of containment invasions right up to the road with damaged and cut and moved roots with an excavator recently.
Can I wish this homeowner really bad hemorrhoids?
Very pretty and well kept green groove from this side. Expensive housing area reported by Tasmainian tree devil tree service. What a guy ,met him during informational seminar at the car oil change site. he did tree work in the area and found this. 33 ft long 21 ft wide tapering to a 10 culm single wide. 18 to 22 ft tall no wet lands around. Already invading nice Arborvitae, will destroy the stone wall too.
