New England Model Engineering Society
February 2013 Meeting
We really dodged a bullet this time! Less than 24
hours after our February meeting the worst snow storm in many years descended
on New England burying vast swaths of the region were buried under feet
of snow and howling winds. But luck was with us and we had a fine
meeting.
Dave Osier spoke about his recent addition of Geothermal heating at his home. He chose the "ground coupled" style of the process. This involves drilling two 300 foot deep holes in the ground, lowering a loop of piping down the holes and circulating fluid down the loop and extracting heat from the ground to heat the house in winter and sending heat from the house down into the earth for summer cooling. Although the project was quite expensive Dave reports that they re very pleased with the results. |
